Of course, the well-appointed home also includes many bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a formal dining room, a two-story living room, a wet bar and a media room. Vancouver Island is home to whales, harbor seals, and temperate weather that beats the reliable drizzle they’re escaping in England. By any non-royal person’s standards, the home rivals that of an actual castle.
As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex speak out for the first time since stepping down as senior members of the royal family, fans are likely wanting to know more about the couple's new life in Montecito, California. Now that the dust has settled, Harry and Meghan have settled into their new life in Canada with their almost one-year-old son, Archie. This life includes their massive Vancouver Island home, which reportedly sits on the "shores of the Saanich Inlet of North Saanich, British Columbia," per Pure Wow.
The property also featured a 2,000-square-foot guest cottage where the Sussexes would have been able to put up visitors - should they have chosen to remain in the area. The couple moved to a 10,000-square-foot mansion estate in British Columbia named 'Millie Fleurs' – previously owned by a Russian oligarch – for some time in November 2019. And in amongst the arguably damaging bombshells the couple released as part of the six-part documentary, was the story of their departure from the UK to Canada, where they fled for a temporary stay after initially taking a step back from royal duties.
King was not previously known to own a home in Montecito and has camped out in Oprah’s guest house on trips from New York City. The interview was originally rumored to have been filmed at Harry and Meghan’s Montecito house, but Oprah confidante and “CBS This Morning” host Gayle King told reporters the interview was shot at “a friend’s house,” according to the Daily Mail. Harry and Markle had previously been staying in “Madea” character actor Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles mansion before moving about an hour and a half away to Santa Barbara, California. Their estate’s proximity to Markle’s mom was ideal during a time when Markle was struggling with her mental health. Their new life is anchored in their 18,000-square-foot modern house in Montecito, California, which the pair purchased for $14.65 million this summer.

Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, recounted how her daughter told her she had thought about taking her own life after being constantly “picked at by these vultures” in the media. On Valentine's Day, the Sussexes revealed that they're expecting their second child. In 1966, the queen's mother visited Victoria and dedicated the cornerstone of the city's most important museum, the Royal B.C. Museum. In 2016, Harry's brother Prince William brought his wife, Kate Middleton, and their children to the city during an official visit to Canada. Victoria has often been a stop for members of the royal family who visit Canada, a former British colony whose head of state officially remains the British Sovereign.
